Description

Muzoriwa, also known as Chigamba, is an ancient Shona mbira piece played in ceremonies. The name Muzoriwa implies “When accused, a person should be considered innocent until proven guilty.” The piece is sometimes called Chigamba (“Patch”, as in patched clothing), because of the typical lyrics “Chigamba chinoda wakura”, literally “A patch wants an old person”. This teaches that patched clothing is for the elderly, not for the able-bodied who should work hard and provide for themselves. [Total time: 75:03]
