Description
This is a fun, very casual recording of guys having fun with drinking and music after a long day. Talented mbira player and vocalist Mutandwa fumbles here and there, sometimes changing songs unpredictably (plenty of drinking…), but his friends enthsiastically cheer him on with makwa (handclapping), dancing, and occasional singing. And Mutandwa sometimes scolds them, if they clap in the wrong place with the music. Mutandwa was an mbira partner and brother-in-law of the late Mondrek Muchena, and at one point sings “Why did you die, Muchena?”. Mondrek’s son Christopher is one of the friends clapping on this recording. Recorded 24 April 2001 in Harare. [Total time: 84:31]
