Description

The large Mujuru extended family, and Mujuru village (also known as Dambatsoko) are renowned for their many many talented mbira players. The neighboring Manjengwa family is spiritually connected to the Mujuru family and also known for their excellent mbira playing. Sitting on the hill, under the trees, several of these musicians relaxed and played the beautiful, low-pitched Dambatsoko tuning in various pairs: Fungai Mujuru, Fradreck Manjengwa, Fradreck Mujuru, and Alois Mujuru. Some unusual pieces are included, such as Nyonganyonga (20 hosho beat cycle) and Musakara (17 beat cycle). This is Part 1 of a two album recording. [Total time: 93:00]
