Mbira, Stories & Song in Chigamba Village 2010: Kari Muberere Mbira Group
$15.00 – $20.00Price range: $15.00 through $20.00
Available as CD or download
Description
RichmanChigamba (younger brother of famous mbira player Tute Chigamba) plays rocking mbira with traditional songs in the Guruve rural area of Zimbabwe, in a different style from that played by the more well-known members of the Chigamba clan. Two young singers in the village add enthusiastic vocals. A very special treat!: two ngano, traditional story songs, told by elderly Cicilia Chigamba (oldest sister of Tute and Richman), complete with English translations by Denver Banda. The group translated their name “Kari Muberere” as “there is something behind the hut, be careful!”…which will forever remind me of Tute Chigamba showing me around the area, saying “when I was growing up here, the lion used to live over there…and the leopard over there…and the hyenas…” [Total time: 63:58]
