Description

Nyama musango (‘Meat in the forest’) is a piece from the over 1,000-year old Shona mbira repertoire played in ceremonies. One translation of the lyrics ‘Chinzvenga mutsvairo’ (‘One who dodges the broom’) is ‘Don’t sit around where women are sweeping, go out and make something of your life…if you want something, go get it, don’t wait for it to come to you.’ This collection includes variants of mavembe, also known as gandanga, tuning only. MBIRA CD 3903 includes nyamaropa tuning versions of the piece. [Total time: 75:57]
