Baya wabaya (lit. ‘Stab after stab’) is a very important song in traditional Shona culture: it is required during kurova guva, the ceremony held about one year after a person’s death to bring his/her spirit back to the family and community. Historically, it was also used to encourage fighters, and still has that encouraging role today at soccer games.
