Description

This 27-year old mbira player plays exciting versions of mbira classics. His mbira is in MBIRA workshop (B) pitch nyamaropa tuning, so mbira students will enjoy playing along, and perhaps learning from this recording. Banda comes from Mutare, on the eastern side of Zimbabwe, where mbira is rarely heard. However, he learned to love mbira from his father’s record collection, first learned to play mbira from an old man, then learned from and played with the Magaya family in high school. More recently he has learned from a variety of senior mbira players in various areas. [Total time: 79:24]
