Description

Once a gwenyambira (professional mbira player for the spirits), always a gwenyambira! While hospitalized for a heart problem, Mashinya’s household experienced a break-in where all their possessions were stolen, even the mbiras! 2 days after release from the hospital, Mashinya recorded on a borrowed mbira he had never played before, but you’d never know it to listen to his beautiful playing of the mbira classics. His daughter Gladys joins him on tracks 12 and 13. Mashinya adds vocals on tracks 2, 3, 12 and 13. In “MBIRA workshop pitch” (around B) nyamaropa tuning. [Total time: 79:49]
