Katsanzaira Dongonda Mbira made by Fradreck Mujuru

Description

7″ (18 cm) wide board, 8 1/4″ (21 cm) key spread, 24-key mbira with metal beads on wire buzzers and wired construction, mellow sound. Katsanzaira tuning is a very sweet high pitched Dorian mode tuning, pitch of lowest note about E flat. Katsanzaira means the sound of the first gentle rain before a storm. Dongonda tunings have the right hand keys (single row) an octave lower than usual (except the lowest  right hand key), in the same range as the upper left keys. Note: Photo is typical of this maker and tuning, however each mbira is individually handmade and may look slightly different.
