Description

The late Mataure Chigamba, son of renowned mbira player Tute Chigamba, started playing marimba at the age of 7, at Kudzanayi Primary School in the Highfield area of Harare, Zimbabwe. By 6th grade, he was leading the group, and helping teacher Aberlyn Svondo to teach the others, and the group was performing at national events. Here, as a young adult, Mataure returns to his beloved primary school group, and plays together with them for this recording. On request, the group first played all the traditional songs in their repertoire, and then other songs. [Total time: 66:16]
