Mbavarira is a piece from the over 1,000-year old Shona mbira repertoire played in ceremonies. Mbavarira means ‘determination’, and the piece is played in many tunings. Most of this collection is in mavembe, also known as gandanga, tuning. However, track 10 is in nyamaropa tuning, and track 4 in nemakonde tuning. [Total time: 79:45]
