Description

Some of the longest tracks we’ve ever recorded! Senior mbira player Meeting Kabanzi dreamed more keys on an mbira and made the 30-key mbira recorded here himself. It sounds like a usual mbira combined with a dongonda mbira. Originally from the northern part of Mhondoro Communal Area, Kabanzi has also lived in Bulawayo for work reasons, where he was a member of the Mazai Mbira Group. He was also on commercial records of Mhuri yekwaZhakata in the late 1960’s. Kabanzi was based in Norton at the time of this recording. [Total time: 93:41]
