Description

Nhai mambo (Oh, ancient spirit!), also called Nhai baba, is a traditional song in the Kariga mombe/Nyamaropa/Mahororo family of mbira pieces. It is a particular favorite of the Shonhai family, and may be called other names by other families. Because the lyrics specific to this piece are a prayer for help from the ancestors because people are dying, it seems appropriate to release this collection during the global pandemic. Additional lyrics from traditionsl vocal repertoire such as Kusarima are also sometimes included. This collection includes both live concerts and field recordings. [Total time: 77:08]
