Shumba is a piece from the over 1,000-year old Shona mbira repertoire played in ceremonies. While shumba literally means ‘lion’, the piece also refers to the ancient tribal guardian spirits known as mhondoro, which sometimes reside in lions. [Total time: 79:01]
