Back in stock! The deze is the low-tech amplifier for your mbira, and we have 2 sizes available, made in Zimbabwe. These are made of fiberglass, molded on a calabash deze.
Place your mbira in the deze with the bottom edge of the board near the edge of the deze. Use a stick (“mutsigo”) to wedge the mbira in tightly, with the bottom of the stick on the top edge of the bar holding down the keys. While pressing the top end of the mutsigo back, press down on the top of the deze, above the stock, with your other hand to distribute the pressure. Hollow bamboo about 1/2″ to 3/4″ (1-2 cm) wide is the best, but any stick will do.
