We really think of a used mbira as a “broken in” mbira, because a new mbira takes about 2 years of regular playing to bring out its full tone.
Proceeds of the sale of these mbiras will be used for our program for mbira education in Zimbabwe’s public schools: funding donation of instruments (and their tuning and repair) and paying Zimbabwean mbira players to teach.
And if you have an mbira you’re not using, please donate it for this! We will fix it up and even replace any missing keys, so any condition is ok.
Currently available on 3 November 2024:
- Used 22-key G nyamaropa mbira by unknown maker
- Used nyunganyunga mbira (also called karimba) by unknown maker, possibly Newtan Chihota
