Description

Ngozi yemuroora (‘the revengeful spirit of the daughter-in-law’) is a piece from the over 1,000-year old Shona mbira repertoire played in ceremonies. In traditional Shona culture, a woman goes to her husband’s village to live forever, after marriage, and must obey her mother-in-law. The name of this song refers to a wife who is treated so badly by her mother-in-law that she dies and then comes back as a revengeful spirit seeking justice. Though this name for the piece is used by the Chigamba family, it is called other names by other musicians. [Total time: 74:34]
