Description

Shumba is a piece from the over 1,000-year old Shona mbira repertoire played in ceremonies. Shumba literally means ‘lion’, and also refers to the ancient tribal guardian spirits known as mhondoro, which sometimes reside in lions. This collection includes mavembe (aka gandanga), katsanzaira, and other related tunings (nyamaropa tuning is presented in Vol. 1). [Total time: 79:32]
